Hazards
The Hazards category includes flood zones and storm surge.
Use hazards information to:
- Determine if property is in a flood zone.
- View where flood prone areas of a region are located.
- Determine if property is at risk for storm surge.
Hazards Products and Services
Florida Maps Online - View flood zones and potential storm surge using our Web based
interactive map viewer. Zoom to
your property of interest and determine whether it is in a FEMA designated flood zone, and the type of flood zone if applicable. Overlay FEMA flood zones with parcel boundaries, elevation contours, wetlands, hydric soils, and
aerials to analyze existing and potential wet areas of your property. Print a map or download an image.
You can quickly and easily determine your flood risk using our service:
- Search by street address or parcel number.
- Turn on the Flood Zone DFIRM map layer(s) (or use the Q3 version if DFIRM is not available for your county).
- Review whether your property falls within a Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) zone.
- Use the "i" tool to click on the map and get more information such as the FIRM panel and community numbers.
- Pan around to view neighboring areas.

Description
DFIRM is a digital version of FEMA's new updated Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM). FEMA is engaged in a multi-year
process to update all FIRMs in the US. For more information on DFIRMs, please refer to
FEMA
Digital Flood Map Products.
Flood zone maps show areas that have a 1% annual chance of a flood event (100-year flood zone) and areas that have a 0.2% annual chance of a flood event (500-year flood zone). This map layer is from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The following information is available by using the "i" tool to view more information about a point on the map:
| FLD_ZONE | Flood Zone, e.g. A, AE, etc. |
| FLOODWAY | Floodway |
| SFHA_TF | IN or OUT of Speical Flood Hazard Area (100 year flood zone) |
| STATIC_BFE | Base Flood Elevation |
| V_DATUM | Vertical Datum |
| DEPTH | BFE. The rounded, whole-foot elevation of the 1-percent-annual-chance flood. This is the value of the BFE that is printed next to the BFE line on the FIRM. |
| LEN_UNIT | BFE units, normally feet |
| VELOCITY | Velocity Measurement - n/a for Florida |
| VEL_UNIT | Unit of Measurement for Velocity |
| AR_REVERT | If the area is Zone AR, this field would hold the zone that the area would revert to if the AR zone were removed. |
| BFE_REVERT | If Zone is Zone AR, this field would hold the static base flood elevation for the reverted zone. |
| DEP_REVERT | If Zone is Zone AR, this field would hold that flood depth for the reverted zone. |
| SOURCE_CIT | Source Citation |
| ACRES | Acreage of flood zone polygon |
| COUNTY | County |
| FLOODPLAIN | Flood plain description |

Description
Q3 is a digital version of FEMA's original Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM). This digital data set was produced in 1996. It was meant to be a planning tool and not to be used for flood determination, unless the property being evaluated is more than 250 feet from a flood zone.
The Q3 maps are being replaced by DFIRMs. In some areas FIRMs have been updated since the Q3 data set was produced but before the DFIRM project was begun and therefore are not represented in either the Q3 or DFIRM data sets. For more information, please refer to FEMA's Q3 User Guide.
Flood zone maps show areas that have a 1% annual chance of a flood event (100-year flood zone) and areas that have a 0.2% annual chance of a flood event (500-year flood zone). This map layer is from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Description
Potential storm surge flooding from tropical storms and hurricanes. Note that these maps are based on elevation data from the
1970s and 1980s and models run in the early 1990s. They should only be used as a very general guide regarding what areas may be flooded
with a given storm surge range. The Florida Department of Emergency Management is currently working on updating these maps
for the entire coast of Florida using recent high-resolution elevation data (LIDAR) and updated models.
Usable Map Scale Range 1:24,000 to 1:500,000
